Goodly Maths Problem of the Week

Your Numero Uno Resource for Math Problems

Each week (or so) I will post a new math problem here.  Send your answers to goodlymaths@netscape.net and if you are correct, I will put your name on a list below the respective problem for all the world to admire.  If you include a solution, I will post that so that everyone can admire your mathy skills.

Also, for each problem you solve, you will get 1 "goodly point", which is sort of like Martian money: it's useless here on Earth.  However, if you get 1,000,000 goodly points, you get a free calculator.  (Hopefully no one will solve that many problems, or I'll have to give away my calculator.)  View the goodly point scoreboard here.

Remember to include your name (or a name you go by), your grade and school (optional), and your answer (required).

Note: Each problem will be open for at least a week, or until someone submits a good solution, whichever is later.  Thus, some problems may be active for several weeks.  Also, there may be more than one problem active at any given time, because I may post more than one problem during some weeks.  Finally, you are welcome to submit answers or solutions to inactive (i.e. solved) problems, especially if you have a different way of solving a problem.
